Launched in 1996, ORA have developed into a leading independent consultancy,
engineering and research company specialising in sustainable waste management.
ORA works closely with its partners (IGW, IGLux and Oeko-Bureau) adopting
best practice from across Europe and adapting it to the individual needs
of our clients.
ORA’s comprehensive range of services from collection, through to treatment and assessment of product end use enables ORA to develop viable solutions for its clients that take account of the whole waste management system.
Our particular strengths include expert support in the design, engineering and construction management of composting, anaerobic digestion and Mechanical Biological Treatment (MBT) facilities. In addition we have expertise in waste auditing, integrated collection systems, product development of recycled materials and markets for compost as well as management of and collaboration in various research and development programmes.
To date ORA have been involved in the development of composting plants
capable of processing more than 300,000 tonnes of waste, anaerobic digestion
plants capable of processing more than 175,000 tonnes of waste and Mechanical
Biological Treatment (MBT) plants processing in excess of 500,000 tonnes
of waste, per annum.
Since 1983 IGW have held a central role in the development of waste
management in Germany. IGW pioneered the development of separate organic
waste collection and composting and have implemented their vision across
Germany and other European Countries. They have designed and managed
the construction and optimisation of composting facilities which process
more than 500,000 tonnes of waste per year and anaerobic digestion plants
processing more than 250,000 tonnes of waste per year. In terms of MBT
facilities IGW have been involved in the development of facilities capable
of processing in excess of 1,500,000 tonnes of waste per year. In addition
IGW are pleased that their model of kerbside collection and treatment
of organic waste has been replicated world-wide.
IGW and ORA are currently pioneering Mechanical Biological Treatment
(MBT) as a means of processing residual waste which remains after the
separation of recyclable materials. This technology will significantly
reduce Europe’s dependence on both landfill and incineration.
Since 1988 IGLux has developed the management of organic waste at the
heart of Europe, in Luxembourg. IGLux have designed and managed
the construction of fully enclosed and open windrow composting facilities
which now compost
approximately 30,000 tonnes of source separated organic material
per year and anaerobic digestion plants processing 25,000 tonnes per
year.
IGLux continue to provide support to local authorities on the operation
and expansion of their kerbside collection schemes and market all
of the compost produced as the highly popular and widely recognised ‘MINNETT’ compost.
Founded in 1986 Oeko-Bureau work internationally on environmental landscape
and land use projects for governments, local communities and private
companies alike. Oeko-Bureau combines economic, ecological, sociological
and demographic factors to find the optimum solutions for its clients
in the following areas: brown field urban development, regional planning,
town and village planning and landscaping.
